ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
Safety in numbers is a natural phenomenon that many species use effectively when foraging, in threat situations and reproduction. Herds of wildebeest migrating in Africa, humpbacks in the Pacific, and monarchs in North America all exhibit this innate and fascinating behavior. Nature, the natural world and the life around us have always been the center of Loretta Kaufman's work. The energies and rhythms found in nature, not always visible or obvious are the sparks that start the process. When painting with liquid polymers her interest is in exploring the boundaries between abstraction and representation. She reduces the subjects to bold simplified forms and likes to create lots of excitement, tension, and often lots of space in the canvases.
