Tuskers (elephants with tusks weighing more than 45kg each) numbers have dropped due to poaching and there are now estimated to be only 24 alive. Seeing this bull in Amboseli Kenya was the highlight of my trip. Not yet a tusker he is destined to become one.

Mother Alligator with her young hatchling stretched out across her head. For me it's a reflection of motherhood only in an animal species many fear. Symbolically this image represents a mother's nature to support protect and literally uplift their young giving them the best opportunity to survive and hopefully thrive.

The image depicts a timid vervet monkey gazing back at me from the refuge of a mangrove forest. Nonhuman primates such as these vervets are humanities closest living relatives. This particular population of Vervets inhabits an island located in a marine protected area in the Lamu archipelago of Kenya. This population forages on multiple species of crabs and has been doing so for decades. This learned primate tradition is rare and the mangrove forests these vervets inhabit are threatened by development. Primate traditions such as these are rare fragile and endangered.

Gorillas have been special to me since I learned about the work of Dian Fossey many years ago. They are such gentle giants (unless provoked) and are so much like humans that evolution is indisputable. When this silverback stood beneath a beacon of light its silver coat shimmered so beautifully.

Orangutans' red hair sets them apart from the other great apes. It is instantly recognizable and so human-like upon their heads in appearance. When this Sumatran orangutan rested her hand upon her shoulder and gazed up into the sky I was mesmerized by how similar they truly are to us in demeanor.
