Scrub Jay photographed by Bruce Bain. Bruce says "The Scrub Jay is an endangered species native to Florida. The Scrub Jay population is often used to measure the health of the scrub habitat in which scrub jays survive. As photographers, we are often referred to as masters of light. Light however is not the only element mastered. Mastery of other elements including lines, color, patterns, textures, subject matter, stories, and perspective is also an integral part of creating an image. Then once these parts are assembled, the key that I look for is to add imagination making the image creative and interesting. Explode the color; remove color leaving black and white; distort lines, patterns, and perspective; and add texture are actions I like to employ. Stability can be repetitive and boring.
In addition, once there is an understanding that images are comprised of different elements assembled to create interest and reaction, subject matter is not limited. Landscapes, alternate reality, people etc. can all be subjects. Accordingly, I do not restrict myself to one style or to one subject."
