Well said, Jerry Alonzo! "The list of extinct/endangered birds is engraved on the piece. The Bald Eagle is listed as it was on a prior list and deleted from the most recent list. I kept it on as a hopeful sign. The black bird keeps an eye on us.Reclaimed Douglas Fir, maple, painted plywood, magnets, steel and stone"
A little about Jerry: - I've always worked with wood, picking up skills along the way and later earning an MFA at the School for American Crafts at RIT. I have also worked as a judge for many years. My plan for balancing art and law was to negotiate those paths separately but after a few years they converged. To my surprise each path enriched the other. My work, utilizing traditional cabinet making methods, is influenced by my surroundings, whether those be courts and ideas of justice or by my physical surroundings in rural upstate NY. I celebrate the often overlooked things around us such as that delightful stone underfoot or bird overhead, it being my intent to honor the ordinary.
