"I captured this shot at the Henry Doorly Zoo on a sunny summer day in Omaha, Nebraska. I've always admired gorillas and appreciated the species' curiosity. Here, the gorilla almost appears to pose for the photo as he basks in the afternoon sunlight. The result is nearly human…" Matthew also says "As an artist, I tend to take more of a "bare bones" approach to photography. Mostly self-taught, I've been capturing images for nearly a decade. For an image of mine to be successful, I want it to say something beyond just the physical attributes of the photo. I need an image that shows emotion, that a viewer can empathize with. For me, shooting photos is all about building a relationship with the audience who will ultimately view the images. At the end of the day, that's the most important thing.
Most of my overall portfolio consists of human portraits, although in the past couple years I've started to dabble more with wildlife and landscape shots."
