This painting of two African Wild Dogs in the bush is a subject very dear to my heart. I have traveled and photographed in South Africa on several occasions and the Wild Dog is by far my favorite subject. The close and caring family relationships, the rearing of the pups and care of the old, wounded or infirm is truly something wonderful to see for yourself. My photography provides reference material to draw and paint accurately the vibrant colors of their coats and the intelligent expressions on their faces. Because they wander out of protected reserves they are at risk and because of their declining numbers are now endangered. These two faces were photographed in the Madikwe Reserve in Botswana, South Africa.
