ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2021 Submission
My inspiration for this piece is to spread awareness of the critical endangerment of the unique Black Rhino. I used the grayscale effects of charcoal to show significant details and add a high contrast between the background and the rhino itself. The rhino is facing the right side, where the light is coming from, signifying hopefulness of the future. The dark background of the rhino shows the dark past. While it is grim, I incorporated this framework to remind the viewer that the past still exists and we need to learn from it to prevent it from repeating. The small hint of warm tones adds to the theme of optimism that is being portrayed. I hope that by presenting this I can also inspire the eagerness to learn and educate about endangerment, support causes and foundations working towards ending endangerment, and provide any wanted or needed influence to assist with the leaving the world in a better state than how we found it.
