Mandarin ducks are aquatic birds but they nest and lay their eggs in trees. They have claws on their feet. One-day-old ducklings are coaxed by their mothers to leap out of the nest down to the ground. They laid with a 'bounce' and are rarely injured. They promptly follow her to nearby water.
