ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
We immediately met this giant fellow when we arrived at the ""Elephant Bedroom Camp,"" located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro river in Samburu. He was the resident elephant, so they gave him the name Obama! We got a little too close for comfort for the guards and workers so they had to frantically wave fallen palm fronds to keep him back while we snapped a few photos then retreated to the safety of the lodge.
That's how I became deeply connected to elephants while on safari in 2010! Since that time I've created 8 drawings of elephants from my photos with plans to draw more down the road.
With the sale of each piece I give a percentage to an elephant non profit such as DSWF and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to help ensure their survival, which has severely depleted due to the massive ivory trade and habitat destruction.
