ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
My fine art is an amalgam of classical realism, illustrative and street art. With a background in old masters' style painting and trompe l'oeil, my paintings have hyper-realistic 3D quality to them person. I have since been self-taught in oil, acrylic, ink and digital media. After my initial training, I spent the first few years creating work that relied heavily on the work of those whose work had influenced me, including Egon Schiele, Barron Storey, Lucian Freud and others, but felt my work was too derivative. I then spent a few years simply drawing for myself and absorbing/gaining inspiration from art in many forms including illustration, graffiti, sculpture, music, comics, art house films, and installation work. The result was a painstaking rework of everything I thought I knew. It pushed me to find new avenues of self-expression that continue to drive my work. Many themes behind my work tell a story in metaphor, half open to the interpretation of the viewer.
