ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
Named by elephant researcher Cynthia Moss, Dionysus was one of the largest and most dominant bulls in the Amboseli ecosystem in southern Kenya. This sculpture represents him in his prime at approximately 50 years of age. Bulls between the ages of 35 and 60 are at the peak of their breeding life.They are desired by females and are the most successful breeders. Dionysus died in 2003 at the estimated age of 63. He has been featured in many documentaries, including the Echo of the Elephants films and the IMAX film, Africa's Elephant Kingdom.
