ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
Creating figurative clay images allows me to connect past experiences in my life with the present and possibilities for the future. My inspiration comes not only from my small- town upbringing, but from having grown up in a family of strong women who allowed their softer sides to shine through, especially via strong bonds with other women and with nature. The inner strength and endurance of women is an ongoing inspiration in my art.
Three years ago sculpting took a new direction as I began to add color to my work. I hand draw the images on my sculptures and mix my own colors with Mason Stains and Terra Sigillata. My work has transformed from a three- dimensional sculpture to include a two- dimensional painting on the surface.
Creating figures of women that convey personality and purpose brings me enjoyment and satisfaction that I would like to transfer to those who view my work.
