ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
This Necklace is inspired by the Resplendent Quetzal - a bird that is native to South America and renown for its brilliant green hue long tail feathers and distinctive voice. While steeped in mythological origins this bird faces threats from habitat loss and feather hunters. The necklace is entirely hand crafted using ethically sourced 18k gold and silver.
Biomimicry refers to the imitation of the models, systems, and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems. Through my jewelry I explore methods of social construction, perception, and emotional expression by alluding to a diversity of life forms. Each piece is hand made by me using various hand fabrication techniques including scoring, chasing, and stone setting. My process utilizes various materials to create unexpected textures on ethically sourced silver and gold.
