ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
Vicki is graphite portrait of one of my favorites of my Ape's series. She was done from a photo by a friend Roger Easley with his permission. He tells me he got Vicki's permission as well.
I was born and reared in South Dakota and SD gave me my love of miles of wide open spaces and sky. If I could paint that sense of openness and freedom I feel when looking over the prairie, I would be a great artist. But I am not up to the task, and every painting of a prairie landscape leaves the color and expanse I try to portray wanting. That doesn't keep me from producing and enjoying paintings of the landscape. And although I will always submit a few for viewing and appraisal, I enjoy so much more, being able to paint and draw faces, hair and fur, flowers. I look at people and animals, see the personalities, the characters, and document what I see. My statement, in oil or pastel or graphite on paper or canvas, is that we need to take note of what is interesting and beautiful; objects, people or animals, scenes, life all around us. And those of us who have special skills have a great opportunity to document life around us.
