ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
Trellis Series: Miami Blue speaks to the success in the restoration of native habitats which have Seaside Lavender and Sundrops host and nectar plants for the Miami Blue butterfly. This has led to Miami Blue's being reintroduced into natural settings. The trellis speaks to the idea of support.
My current body of work continues in the exploration of the manipulation of water-based paints, on and with paper, as well as utilizing their individual properties in order to create the expression of the topic I am considering in a visual manner. The elements of line and color are my primary focus, along with the principle of rhythm. The subject matter is about the actuality of occurrences in my life, currently including environmental issues. Trellis Series Miami Blue derives from the concept of structure and resolution of the art piece itself yet speaking to the issues of endangered butterflies and the host and nectar plants which support them in Miami, Florida where I live and have a native plant garden.
