ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.
I rely on the visual language of popular culture from things like movies, fashion and novelty items, to reveal people's perverse relationships with other animals. By taking advantage of the viewer's comfortability with my familiar kitsch representations, my artwork can quietly expose cultural significances. Deliberately left open-ended, my sculptures invite the viewer to evaluate their own personal values in which they themselves impose on animals and why.
I recreate familiar commercial products meticulously by hand, out of clay rooting them back to traditions of art. Like the unsuspecting concepts in my work, the material I use also catches the viewer off guard. My sculptures address complex social ideas out of an elemental material.
