ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.
Kathleen Stone’s jewelry highlights the often underappreciated parts of our world. In her work she strives to connect the subject of the jewelry with the wearer, and beyond.
Her love for the environment and desire to highlight the threats facing the Asian Elephant lead her to make the piece, ‘Asian Elephant: Life in the Balance.’
In this necklace, the elephant is scaled down to show its vulnerability. It is suspended by a chain, plucked from its stable ground and now teetering on the brink of extinction. By the wearer holding the elephant in their hand, we show what delicate balance their fates are in and that we have the power to change that.
Jewelry gives elephants and the wearer a platform to create dialogue about ways to conserve. It inspires us to share their stories and connects people to spread ideas of elephant conservation.
