ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.
My passion for glass art is driven by my love of nature, an endless desire to learn new things, and opportunities to experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques. Casting glass sculptures, in particular, affords unique options for dimension, detail, color and responses to light. Because every type of glass has its own unique challenge for making a conceptual piece, capturing nature or other objects in glass is a constant challenge and joy. A small finished piece can evoke a thought or emotion that excites me as much as a large complex piece that takes many more days to complete. While my art glass is constantly evolving, some patterns have emerged--images from nature, particularly, flora and fauna of the desert southwest, whimsical images that bring forth memories from childhood, and images concerning our changing environment. Creating glass art is a constant challenge and the effort simply feeds my soul.
