ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.
Feeling connected to Earth as the vital source of our existence, past, present, and future, informs my work. As an artist, I take my cues from nature. I'm most attracted to the organic shapes and lines inspired by flora and fauna, they represent a sense of freedom for me. In ceramics, I have the unique opportunity to create work that reflects, not just ideas, but feelings and emotion.
I want my audience to connect to my art by seeing themselves in it, as a way to reflect on their own lives, strengths, and vulnerabilities. My style continues to evolve. My work is both wheel-thrown and hand-built, and sometimes it's a combination. I enjoy the creative process.
My decision to become an artist wasn't easy, I had to wrestle with the decision to do something responsible or to do something that I loved. Now it's easy to see that in doing what I love, I've created a connection between myself and others, and that is important work.
