ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.
Anatole France once said, "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." The special bond between a human and an animal awakens one’s soul to the breath and light of empathy and compassion. Animal portraiture captures that light and spirit, as well as the intricate dance and balance between humans and non-human animals. Every animal is unique in their own personalities, wishes, and spirits; which can all be captured in a detailed, painted portrait. Engaging with any animal creates an intimate relationship; a relationship that is only heightened when the artist delves into the intricate details of the image of the animal. Watercolor and ink allows Jennifer to capture each animal's unique personality and physical features with a sense of specified detail and whimsy. The flow of the watercolor, compared to the static, intricate details of ink stippling, lets Jennifer create a dynamic composition that juxtaposes fluidity with pure intricacy.
