Cape Cod National Seashore is collaborating with municipalities to develop proactive plans to mitigate climate change risks: sea level rise and flooding threats battering the coastline, historic lighthouses (like Race Point Lighthouse); eroding the dunes and damaging wildlife and humans alike.

Just like clean air and water, dark night skies are a diminishing resource. Scientific evidence suggests that artificial light at night has negative and deadly effects on many creatures’ life-sustaining behaviors including amphibians, birds, mammals, insects and plants.

We were in a boat far off the coast of Sri Lanka looking for dolphins. Suddenly hundreds appeared. They were jumping, splashing, teasing and playing. Boundless Splashing Spontaneity! Though the total bottlenose dolphin in the world is not endangered, many populations face serious threats. They are very sensitive to climate change, are often injured by human activity and many fishing methods. Overfishing is also depleting their food sources, and they are very sensitive to pollution.

This reflects upon the existence of the Orca and it’s delicate yet intimidating presence. They are curious creatures with grace, elegance, and danger. We often overlook that they too raise families with intense protection and love for their young and are tightly connected to their pods.

Pit-fired ceramic. Using a rhinoceros is obvious. The bird is a cardinal, not endangered now, but passenger pigeons weren't either until they were wiped out. I included the snake, because a lot of people don't like snakes. We need all the animals, not just ones people like.
