This painting is of a baby orangutan. Orangutans are endangered and losing their homes because people are destroying the forests where they live to make palm oil, which is used in a lot of foods we consume. I made this painting as a gift for my stepmother, who loves orangutans, and I would like to submit it to this contest and donate to help endangered animals.

The first time I saw a mandarin duck, I was stunned by it. However, I decided to draw the Mandarin duck not only because their colors are so vibrant, but that not many people know of their endangerment. This is happening because most of the ducks reside in their native habitat, located in China and Japan. Due to the fast development of these countries, their homes are being destroyed. In my drawing, I portrayed a hand holding a mandarin duck as if one was saving it. It looks so precious and fragile in the hands, so I want this drawing to serve as a reminder of how beautiful nature can be but also how easy it is to lose it.

This is a picture of our cat, Mr. Joe Whiskers. We have had Joe since he was a kitten and had him sent to us in Newfoundland from Alberta. I am normally allergic to cats but we chose Joe because he was a hypoallergenic Siberian cat.

Growing up on the east coast of Florida around sea turtle nesting sites, I have experienced the beauty of these creatures first hand. Sea turtles are a part of our local ecosystem, and we have learned how to live with them and help them survive. This piece and the color choices bring attention to the plight of the sea turtles, and the scene could be a sunrise or a sunset based on the viewer's interpretation. A new beginning or an imminent ending, either one the future of the sea turtle, and we as humans may be choosing their fate.

Whale Sharks - Gentle Giants of the Sea. They are such beautiful and amazing creatures. It's sad that they are endangered because of hunting, collisions with boats, and by catch. I got to swim with many of them in Mexico and I didn't feel scared at all surrounded by them. I hope we can protect them and help them survive.

Tigers are truly magnificent big cats! All 6 sub-species are endangered. Their greatest threats are poaching & habitat destruction. They have lost 95% of their habitat in the last century and 3 sub-species are now extinct. I hope we can all work together to protect the tigers from going extinct.
