Turtle at Sea by the children of ArtREACH and ArtHOUSE. All Rights Reserved.
The children participating in the ArtREACH and ArtHOUSE programs through Young At Art Museum have created a collaborative piece to enter into this year’s ‘Endangered’ Art Contest.
The artists are: Carmelitha Marc, Joshua Newman, Miyesha McCall, Sean Newman, Selene Griffith, Keandre Smith, Carly Laurent, Micah Williams, Anastasia Griffith, Tamya Williams, Ja’nasia Brown, Ethan Jeanty, Kaya McIntosh, Sean Rahming, Valentino Moore, Wood Nicolas Manch Allen, Ashanti Jones, Anthony Wilburn, Nevaeh Waters, Jayden Waters, Aliana Hughes, Emmanuel Hughes and Viviana Hughes.
Entitled ‘Turtle at Sea’ this piece depicts a sea turtle in the ocean. It is a mosaic of plastic and glass beads on a painted canvas. The materials in the piece have been up-cycled from donated and collected materials. Trash, like plastic, in our oceans is affecting sea life. Sea Turtles are especially affected by plastic. They choke on plastic bags and get poisoned by other trash. We have to be more careful with our trash so that oceans remain clean and healthy.
ArtREACH is a free, afterschool art, literacy and academic enrichment program for homeless youth and teens.
ArtHOUSE is a socially engaged, art-based initiative where residents of Northwest Gardens can experience a variety of art.
