I discovered art later in life, and work in a wide variety of media, including pastel. My experiences with national public art include the National Parkinson’s Foundation Creativity Calendar. I have also participated in many local events such as the Tamarac ArtsFest, in April of 2017.  Currently, my work is on exhibit in the Westfield Gallery at Broward Mall in Plantation, Florida.

Thank you for your attention. It would be so exciting to collaborate with you in this unique way; I have always been concerned about and interested in the construction of public art. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have.

SUBMISSION: Ebony and Ivory by Alice van Kempen

ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2017 Submission.

Ebony and Ivory by Alice van Kempen. All Rights Reserved.

In Africa, every 15 minutes an elephant is being slaughtered by poachers to supply the demand for ivory; that‘s 96 beautiful creatures a day. Last year as of the middle of September there have been 36 elephants killed by poachers in the Kruger Park (South Africa) alone. The highest number since 1982. As an artist, I want to try to inspire others to look at the beauty of our earth and it’s creatures and above all make them aware that some of these beautiful creatures might not make it into the new century if we don’t act now.  Once extinct they are gone forever.  Nature is my passion, my love and understanding of nature inspires me throughout my creative process. In wildlife photography, the emphasis has generally been on capturing the dramatic moments of animals in action. I want to capture their personalities, in their natural environment, without interfering.

Minimal post-processing is applied to each photograph. the omission of color often gives a stronger image.

My first official safari was a trip to Tanzania this year. I now realize, my treks into the Everglades here in Florida are also safaris. Both environments have taught me much about the intelligence of all animals. And, their rights to exist unmolested are as valid as human rights.

I have always viewed life with an artist's eye. As a professional dancer and art & architecture lover, my life always involved studying movement and light. I am an admirer of the great works of Van Gogh, Picasso, Gaudi, Lloyd-Wright. I fell in love with making images as a child, using my mom's 'Brownie'. A true Sagittarian, I am prone to wanderlust, travelling extensively and am passionate about capturing the inherent beauty of our world. I have merged my life's passions: the arts, travel, and photography to create unique images that tell a story. I shoot with a digital SLR and creating images for theatre, dance, publications and private collections. I enjoy volunteering for philanthropic and non-profit organizations, specifically those involved with the Arts and children with special needs. If my images of our world's myriad landscapes, iconic architecture, and exquisite artists in motion inspire others to explore what lies beyond our own backyards, then I have done my job.

Robin Hood's Major Oak by Phoenix Marks. All Rights Reserved.

Every time I go out to photograph nature I really find myself being called to go within. Photography is my way of communing with the Universe, Source or God ...whatever one may call that divine essence. My love, my divine call to art, is to truthfully capture those moments when my soul is touched by the extraordinary wonder and beauty seen through my camera's inner lens -- from colorful bugs, smaller than a fingernail's tip, to ever changing magnificent paintings presented every morning and night for humanity's delight. South Florida's wetlands and the Everglades in particular are my primary photography studio and sanctuary.

My approach to photography and life is grounded in my spiritual belief that "we are all one, we are all interconnected." As a nature photographer, the importance of nature is more than a scientific necessity for creating air, clean water and producing food. It is a sacred necessity for healing and bringing peace to the human soul.

SUBMISSION: A wild jaguar in Brazil's Pantanal wetlands by Mari Tada

ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2017 Submission.

A wild jaguar in Brazil's Pantanal wetlands by Mari Tada. All Rights Reserved.

In my field, I have been in many environments observing endangered species in their habitat, but to chance upon a jaguar drinking from a river was a rare moment made even more special by locking eyes with such an elusive cat. In Brazil's Pantanal wetlands, the dry season sees an increase of these threatened big cats as they stick close to rivers for water and prey. As more local people move away from agriculture or resource extraction and toward wildlife tourism economic development, jaguar poaching and human wildlife conflict have decreased.

Compelled by a life-long passion for the environment, I photograph wildlife and nature. Traveling around the world to explore both familiar and novel environs, I seek to capture spontaneous wildlife moments and unique perspectives on nature. I aim to lure viewers more deeply into the natural world than they might venture on their own. I strive to evoke the experience of being in nature by photographing un-manipulated scenes and minimally post-processing images, to most accurately convey wilderness in its organic state. My photographic collections include: Nature in Abstract, stylistically revealing art in nature; Nature and Travel, emphasizing portraits of wildlife and habitats around the world; and South Florida Birds and Gardens, inspiring bird-friendly landscaping through an intimate view of birds and plants, featured in my two award-winning books. With all my work, I hope to restore human connections to the planet that have too long been neglected.

SUMISSION: Elephant Watering Hole by H. Allen Benowitz

Entry to the ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest 2017

Elephant Watering Hole by H. Allen Benowitz. All Rights Reserved.

Attracted to photography as a child, I enjoyed taking candid shots of my friends at the children's home where I was raised. Receiving honorable mention, early on, in the International Kodak Contest, that Kodak moment reawakened those early desires.

As a former court reporter and videographer, the camera became a natural segue and my eye for detail moved from the courtroom to the world. Featured: numerous publications, including the ARTnews, Art Business News, The Laurel of Asheville, the International Contemporary Art artists book, and the Exposure Award Portraiture. Benowitz has also been chosen as one of Art Business News' Top Emerging Artists for 2014. In an international competition, in July 2015, his work was on display at the Louvre in Paris. In March 2016, he was presented with six Winner and Nominee Medals in the 9th Annual International Color Awards Competition. His photo subjects include Nature, wildlife, people, architecture, and adventure travel.

SUBMISSION: Osprey by Paul Dempsey

Entry to the ENDANGERED Art & Photography Contest 2017 Osprey by Paul Dempsey. All Rights Reserved.

Paul Dempsey, a computer programmer and Webmaster by trade, describes himself as a fine art photographer and a ‘digital manipulator’. His keen vision captures ordinary details from daily life and transforms them into images of beauty and wit, filled with contrasting shapes and effects.

Paul‘s current series of abstract work focuses on macro images of nature combined with additional exposures of ice, snow, sand, and sky. These futuristic scenes, inspired by the writings of Kurt Vonnegut, offer a wry commentary on global warming and climate change. Paul’s work is printed on a variety of substrates including metal, paper, and canvas. His photography has been displayed in galleries such as Ashawagh Hall, Southampton Cultural Center, George Billis Gallery, Water Mill Museum, East End Arts, Guild Hall and Spectrum @ Art Basel, Miami.

Paul has donated his time and images for fundraising for nature conservancy and animal rescue.

I love photographing nature, landscapes, sunsets, beaches and much more. I experience peace being surrounded by nature. I feel that everyone should see the beauty in nature so I capture it with photography. I believe that South Florida has so much to see on a daily basis that you can miss it as life passes. My work captures those places and moments in time. I feel that all other places have the same heart and soul as South Florida does.
