The world around us is full of images that are dynamic and ever changing with time. Photography captures these little slices of time, moments that pass mostly unoticed and taken for granted in our daily lives. Every photograph a visual story of life and being alive in a glorious world of line, space, color and motion. Please take a look at more lovely work by Steve dapontephotography.com
SUBMISSION: Patience by Lisa Renee Ludlum
One of my favorite quotes is “it’s not what you look at that matters – it’s what you see” by Thoreau. I find this so true with the art of photography. As a life-long Florida gal, I have truly been blessed to live in this amazing state - a canvas of endless possibilities and diverse opportunities. My lens is an extension of my eye and my camera is an extension of my soul. Beauty surrounds us, yet the fine details are often missed in our busy lives. Understanding this concept, I have channeled my expertise as a photographer in conjunction with my passionate artistic style by capturing life’s intricate moments. I get great joy out of sharing my visionary images through the magic of photography.
I am inspired by all genres of photography, yet my strongest connection is with nature and I am truly captivated by “Macro Photography”. There is a deep awe of intrigue with extreme close-up images – it is like discovering a hidden treasure and the smallest things reveal the most amazing jewels.
SUBMISSION: Sunken Boat by Michael Wallace
Panorama taken from a kayak trip down Blackwater Creek, Morgan County, Kentucky. Limestone cliffs frame a sunken fishing boat. Time has stripped down the plastic and fiberglass of the vessel. A single vine points directly towards the motor, the most prominent of the boats features. Growing up in the smoky mountains region of Appalachia, our culture is a mix of outdoor and urban life. We have an appreciation for our surroundings. This part of Kentucky grows on a person's soul, often leaving visitors with a reason to come back - it is hard to find such a rustic and raw form of nature so close to home. Here we also see the effects of industrialization and commercialism as coal companies strip mountains for coal, and people scatter trash through unintentional negligence. It is part of American culture to exploit beautiful areas in demand for coal. Institutions promoting cleaner solutions are popping up everywhere in attempts to wrestle with our desire for basic amenities. As caustic material builds up over the years, finding discarded items in less industrialized rivers becomes far more common. Combining the natures delicate life with invading pollution offers a simple truth - something has to give.

Great apes make great models, as they don't care if I photograph them. As long as I don't encroach on their territory, they are happy to go about their business. They ask for their environment undisturbed. Let us respect their survival. See more of Linda's work at www.linda-artist.com

SUBMISSION: Precious by Carolyn Quan
Multiple layers of original digital photography that are digitally collaged together and sold as limited edition giclées on canvas or infused into aluminum. My love of nature and humanity combined with my love of photography and design have guided me towards what I feel is my higher path in life. I am deeply inspired by spirituality and all of the divine beauty that has been created on this earth and I feel that it is my duty to share this inspiration with others through my art and my creative vision. It is my hope that my art will remind people about how important our natural world is to us and that we, too, are part of it – integrated with it on many different levels from the air we breathe, to the food we eat, to the remedies that heal us. By integrating my photographs of humans, animals, and other elements of nature, I create fine art photo collages that evoke a world untouched by man-made objects. Through my creations we are reminded that we are one with nature. The organic theme of my art places emphasis on the fact that our natural world provides us with all of our basic needs and an insurmountable abundance of beauty on this earth.
SUBMISSION: Sunset Key West, Florida by Katherine Ko
The most beautiful moment. My photography and paintings are related to my job as a travel agent. I first started as a photographer and turned to painting. Having lived and traveled in many countries, I have had the opportunity to develop my skills and allowed me to create my paintings under the influence of masters from many countries including Asia, the Middle East and Europe.
Painting gives me peace, love and happiness.
SUBMISSION: Beeline by Joseph Perez
Photography is a stoppage in time in history. My photos record what "is" so people can see what "has been";. I am primarily a landscape photographer, but close-ups of leaves, fungus, and other natural objects are of interest. My lens is filled based upon at least two thirds of what I see as not to take "tourist photos";. I have the "eye";. I see what others tend to pass by.
SUBMISSION: Amur Leopard by Nick Hebert
This amur leopard is a resident at the Lee Richardson Zoo in Garden City, Kansas. I was a bit surprised to see it up since it was rather warm out that day but it was cool to see such a beautiful animal. It is a shame that they are critically endangered. I enjoy using photography as a creative outlet to help balance my math and science side as I complete my engineering degree. As an engineering student, I tend to see the more complicated way things interact with each other so for me, photography is a way to look at these interactions in a more simple and elegant way. As I’ve gotten older, I have started to recognize the importance of being able to view something such as an object, an idea, or social issues from multiple viewpoints so that you reach new levels of understanding. And that is something that I am trying to transfer to my photography as well. Whether it is a book, a field full of chaff, or a decoration, it is rewarding to try to view it from a different angel that would otherwise be overlooked. For me, that is the greatest challenge and subsequently the source of the greatest excitement in photography and I hope to continue looking at the world around me through a multitude of lenses.

New work from Pekka Järventaus
Since I was a child I have been intrigued by lions. I simply find them to be truly mysterious and magical animals. And I am not the only one who is captivated by these extraordinary animals. Their majestic charisma and personality has been well portrayed anywhere from movies to books, as well as being symbolized in logos. Lions are the true icons of royalty and power. With my new project "Portraits from a kingdom", I am aiming to go beyond traditional documentary photography to convey those magical qualities that intrigues me the most. This project is exclusively shot in Masai Mara, Kenya, The kingdom of lions.
Spending time with lions in the Masai Mara, Kenya is a truly remarkable experience and I hope that my photography will inspire a future with healthy lions still roaming the great plains.

SUBMISSION: Wild Orangutan Kinabatangan by Dana Vion
Wild Orangutan Kinabatangan, photograph by Oregon based Dana Vion. I observed this endangered male Bornean orangutan from a small boat on the Kinabatangan River, feeding in the evening. This area represents one of the small patches of intact rainforest in Borneo.
Great ape conservation is one of my greatest passions. After volunteering in Africa for 7 months at a Chimpanzee Rescue Center, I went on to get a Masters Degree in Zoology. I will complete the program in December of 2014. I hope to use my skills and experience as a media producer to help create awareness and action around conservation issues.

SUBMISSION: 3 Amigos Escape Along The River by Matthew Coglianese
3 Amigos Escape Along The River, Dye Sublimation Print on Aluminum Sheet Metal, by Matthew Coglianese. Through my lifelong affair and experimenting with various forms of art I chose to walk the path of Graphic Designer and Photographer which fortunately go hand in hand. With a formal education in graphic design already in place, in 2009 I began implementing my photography into my workflow which allows me to maximize my creative efforts by having total control of my design process from beginning to end. My focus now relies heavily on my photographs to be digitally manipulated and altered before creating that “final image”. I find the most enjoyment when I am altering images turning the “visual truth” into something else that could never exist. Whether I am creating a giant hot dog crashing through a building, or a giraffe casually jaywalking across a busy city street, to a post apocalyptic cityscape, it’s the concepts that most likely could never exist here and now that draw me in closest.

Submission: Tired and Defeated by Karen Colbert
Ape in a zoo setting. The defeated body language and overall lethargy of this ape tore at my heart. It wasn't a necessarily hot day, food and water were available. It seemed to me that this ape had just given up on most everything. But at least, there was shelter and sustenance, meager though it may be. Check out Karen's website www.karenhcolbert.com

There have always been rules and there have always been reasons to break them. Every medium, every art form begins with a set of rules. The may change with time and culture but they tend only to change where there are driving factors or motives to control them. But there are also times when people or movements will push or bend these rules.
Michael Wicks is a local and international freelance photographer, is known for capturing underwater as well as land and journalistic images. Focusing on nature using long exposure and Infrared photography he has been featured in National Wildlife Federation’s publications as well as Underwater Photo Magazine based in London and theUSATravelMagazine.com site. His work has been used by IFAW in presentations to Congress for their Tails for Whales Campaign."
