Restless Nature Paintings are wild animal portraits created using acrylic paint on gallery wrapped canvas. Successive layers of colorful paint are applied by dry brushing over previous layers allowing some color to show through. Animals are surprisingly realistic, while the colors used are often fantastical.

Living in Florida offers Jody the opportunity to see ospreys in their natural habitat. They are brown above and white below From below, the wings are mostly white with a prominent dark patch at the wrists. This coloration actually helps conceal them as they hunt from the air for fish.

This painting commemorates the Grizzly Bears who once roamed the Southwestern United States. It also captures my desire to restore ecosystems by prioritizing native species over the destructive practices of humanity.

In 2021 669 Manatees died from boat propeller injuries and starvation because of depleted seagrass supplies. In 2022 that number increased to 928. The situation has become critical and local and state governments must act quickly and effectively to save these natural wonders.

Disquiet, a high relief sculpture of a Lowland Gorilla, connects to the viewer’s ability to introspectively contemplate the future. The destruction of our environment puts all species on the planet in danger. The gaze of the gorilla anxiously peers into the distant future, bringing a heightened awareness to what our reality may be. By creating an emotional connection with the viewer transference of the disquietness depicted occurs.

Life is seen through illumination and shadow; the play of colors reacting to atmosphere. The wild things are found disappearing into them or shining before them and this is what I seek to capture. It's a passion that fills my life, and glorifies the God who makes it possible. Soli Deo Gloria!

This spectacular herd of elephants came excitedly down the hillside right as we hopped back into our safari vehicle in South Africa. Elephants are close to my heart...their intelligence, the care they show to one another, their comical behaviors....will never grow old for me. I savor every moment I have spent with wild elephants.

I wanted to bring awareness to the public how important each individual animal is to us, our planet and our eco system. We are all one and need each other. Therefore we as humans have the responsibility to protect the endangered species because they save our native fish, plants, and other wildlife from going extinct. Once gone, there's no going back, and no balance.

You can look at this piece and either see a bear being engulfed by flames or rising above them. I wanted to give the viewer a chance to make up their own minds. I feel I need to give a voice to these animals affected by wildfires. I want this image to be powerful enough to start up a conversation.
