BamBam was born at a breeder’s facility in Florida. After being taken from his mother as an infant he was sold to a California trainer for work in entertainment. At the age of six after several seasons working on a soap opera BamBam became too strong to be worked safely and was ready for retirement. He was relinquished to the Center for Great Apes sanctuary in 2005 where he is allowed to live as an orangutan free from harm.

This oil painting completed on a 12x12 primed stretched canvas is custom framed in a museum quality mahogany frame. As with most of my wildlife subjects my concentration is on their eyes. In fact when painting I start with the eyes. This gives me an introduction to who I am working with.

The camera has always been my paintbrush for placing a personal touch on the beauty around me, whether nature, architecture, or people. I enjoy the creative process of photography from beginning to end: the fulfillment of capturing an inspiring moment, and expressing it onto my finished work.

As a Florida native, I am drawn to the natural colors, textures and dimensions of the changing environment. Inspired since childhood by Pop Art and Modernism, my art has an affinity for playful, bold modern colors and geometric images. My art reflects my love for life. Nature, family, friends, and life experiences are expressed in unique forms that give me joy. My hope is to make others feel as good viewing it as it does for me to make it.
