ENDANGERED: Art4Apes is delighted to announce that Irina Grammatina is our May 2022 Virtual Artist in Residence
Congratulations to Irina Grammatina for becoming our May 2022 Virtual Artist in Residence. The Virtual Artist in Residence Program is awarded monthly to the artist (or photographer) who has submitted 3 or more entries to the ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest 2021 and has been selected by the Curatorial Committee as best interpreting the aims of the Contest.
Artist Statement
I’ve spent my life as a professional watercolor artist and worked in the high-end fashion world. To master painting on silk and express my vision and love of nature and animals, I’ve studied with great teachers from Russia, Japan, and Indonesia.
I consider each piece as an original work of art and I put my heart and soul into each one.
About the Artist
Based in West Palm Beach, Florida, Irina works from her home studio to create beautiful and elegant hand-painted silk garments. Each one of Irina Grammatina’s work is unique and hand-made and no work can ever be reproduced exactly. The process itself is technically complex and requires specific skills, training, and equipment.
Some of the equipment is also one of a kind and was manufactured for Irina to her specifications. It is lucky that her academic training as an Industrial Designer and painter gave her the technical and scientific background to allow her to put forth her artistic visions using fashion as her canvas to create these unique wearable artworks.
Bio
Irina was born in St. Petersburg, Russia, and began art school at 6 years old. She graduated from the prestigious Mukhina Academy with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Design. She was a professional watercolor painter and upon moving to the US began a 14-year career at Giorgio Armani in Palm Beach. Her own work reflects this background and training allows her to express her love of nature, animals, and her travels around the world. Equally comfortable in a ballroom in Palm Beach or a jungle in Asia or South America, Irina brings a unique skillset and vision of her lovingly hand-painted silk fashions.
