JURORS

The 5th annual ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest is proud to announce our jury panel for 2017. Dr. Zora Carrier, Bruce Helander and Ron Magill have generously offered their services to judge this global, online contest which benefits the Center for Great Apes. With their combined expertise in Fine Art, Fine Art Photography and the natural world, they bring tremendous expertise and enthusiasm to the judging of the ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest. They are all looking forward to reviewing all the entries.

DR. ZORA CARRIER

Dr. Carrier is Executive Director of the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts.

She is an accomplished art educator. She received her Ph.D. in Education from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovak Republic in 1989. In 2002, she co-founded and was director of Gallery Art Factory in Prague, Czech Republic, a not-for-profit institution presenting modern and contemporary art. In 2006, she founded the Open Concept Gallery in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where, as director, she managed art projects and art education programming. Before becoming the Director of the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, she consulted on educational opportunities.

BRUCE HELANDER

Bruce Helander is an acclaimed artist, writer and critic.

He received a BFA and MFA in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he later served as the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. He has studied at Yale University and Harvard, and is a former White House Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts. He recently received the First Annual Professional Achievement in the Arts Award from Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary, and is a member of the Florida Artists Hall of Fame. Helander is a past recipient of the South Florida Cultural Consortium’s award for Professional Achievement in the Arts and has won four separate grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts. His work in represented in over fifty permanent public collections, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, Whitney Museum of American Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. As a critic, he regularly writes for numerous publications such as The Huffington Post, Sculpture magazine, Art Hive magazine and One Art Nation, among others. He is a seasoned juror and curator of museum exhibitions and serves on the board of the Center for Creative Education.

RON MAGILL

Ron Magill is Zoo Communications & Media Relations Director of Zoo Miami and also Nikon Ambassador USA.

Ron has worked with wildlife for over 35 years and has had the privilege of having “hands-on” experience with a tremendous variety of animals. As Zoo Miami’s “Goodwill Ambassador”, he has made frequent television appearances on many programs including, “National Geographic Explorer”, the Discovery Networks, the “Today Show”, “Good Morning America”, “The Late Show ”, “CBS’ This Morning”, “Dateline” and “CNN”. Ron has also been a regular guest on several Spanish language television programs including international hits “Sabado Gigante” and “Despierta America”. In addition, he has written and produced many wildlife articles and award-winning photographs that have appeared in publications and galleries around the world. He has traveled extensively throughout Africa, India and Tropical America while developing and directing conservation projects and Emmy Award winning documentaries focusing on the wildlife of those regions.
