YOUNG ARTISTS 1ST PRIZE: Protect Me For Tomorrow by Alison Irving
Chimpanzee sitting in a tree. Chimpanzees have disappeared from four African countries, and are nearing extinction in many others.
Commercial hunting for bushmeat and deforestation are taking a huge toll on their populations.
This painting is meant to represent the colorful beauty of the near endangered species, the chimpanzee, and what our negligent actions are causing us to lose.
How terrible would it be to never see this face again, this face that resembles our own, this face with such soulful eyes? I hope to evoke a feeling of sympathy and remorse from those observing this piece.
We cannot sit back and watch this species dwindle or even worse, disappear. We must take action in any way possible. We must save the chimpanzees.
