WEARABLE ART 2ND PRIZE EQUAL: The Panther by Tatiana Fitzpatrick
This bold unisex necklace represents the endangered black panther, locked up in the cage and looking at you with the sparkles of reproof in her black diamond eyes. Black panthers have an amazing ability for adaptation to different environments, but human beings are the biggest threat to the survival of this beautiful species. The theme of the cage is allegorical, it portrays the threat to the black panther from human beings and the loss of their natural habitat. "The Panther" is a "talking necklace". In this necklace I combined the beadwork art and the art of literature using the Aztec coding. Aztec bar-codes give the necklace the ability to speak for itself. Each of the beaded squares of the necklace has the coded verses of the poem "The Panther" by Rainer Maria Rilke translated by Stephen Cohn and when scanned together, all 6 beaded squares contain the whole poem. Beads are an integral part of my life. I am interested in creating different objects which can be artistically accented by beadwork. In the designs I like to use many techniques, both well-known and those which I invented myself.
Fashion is transient, but feelings are eternal. My art represents my inner feelings. I believe art should display light and beauty, and appeal to the best sides of humanity, evoking positive emotions and encouraging spiritual growth and self-perfection. Every piece of my art is unique and made with love – to both God and mankind, in appreciation of the beauty surrounding my life.
