SUBMISSION: Turbulent Turf by Susan Andreasen
Turbulent Turf, oil on canvas by Susan Andreasen. All Rights Reserved. A Rhino family in the wild trying to protect their portion of the land for their young. The movement of the grass and the Rhino charge to defend his territory is to show how threatened their by mans present.
By portraying wildlife through modern artistic form, I hopes to raise public awareness of the needs of the environment and the reality of which animals, plants and man are on the brink of extinction. "In the Twenty-First Century, I believe man and art have become alienated from nature,” which I have stated. “By denying nature, we deny a part of ourselves and an appreciation of nature, thus preventing man from realizing his full potential. By illuminating the devastation of our environment I hope recruit and enliven future dedicated environmentalists to continue this noble cause.” Throughout my career, I have focused my work on creatures and plants from the endangered species list and maintains a unique method of layering oils. While this may sound similar to watercolor style, it creates a non-translucent transparent layering effect that I believes is much more vibrant and appealing than the standard oil painting style.
