SUBMISSION: Orangutan Burned In Memory by Lori Horowitz
Artist Statement: Art reflects the conditions and emotions of life we experience through image and form. The “Burned into Memory” series engages in life’s transient qualities and functionality, bringing light to the issues of loss. These panels suggest the the delicate balance of these species being a shadow of what they once were. These portraits illuminate the problem and their threat of extinction By exploring new media, I have developed a process, “painting with fire”. combining sculpture, painting and photography to produce multifaceted pieces. These sculptural reliefs and flat screens hold images burned into copper screening which create haunting shadows, translucent images and images and reflective imagery. Through Lori Horowitz’s sensitivity to subject matter, she strives to expand the limitations of art by visually confronting issues and bringing consciousness to those we face.
