SUBMISSION: Morning of the African Elephant by Guadalupe Saavedra
Morning of the African Elephant by Young Artist Guadalupe Saavedra. All Rights Reserved. The sun rises over the savannah for another day. Nobody will ever really know when it will be their last day upon this earth. A life will always be worth more than any decorated ring.
Many know that the elephants are commonly killed for their tusks which contain ivory. The designs on the body are considered ‘tribal’ which are engraved into ivory decor and jewelry. This was also why block print seemed to do more justice than watercolor. The colors represent tranquility and peace. The purple fading to blue also represents the sunrise as well as the sunset. The elephant wakes and makes it through another day unknowing when it might be poached for a jewelry box and sold.
