During the past two years, monarch butterflies have become an important part of my work. They began as simple imagery to accompany my day of the dead themed platters and dinnerware, but they transformed into an obsession. Monarchs are dying, in the past twenty years ninety seven percent of their population has ceased to exist. And soon enough, if nothing is done, they will become extinct. I intend for my work to bring forth very important issues, concerns, and opinions on the well being of these precious creatures, along with the well being of the entire natural world. While being informative, my work is also aesthetically pleasing, attention grabbing, and powerful. My goal is for my audience to walk away with new knowledge, something to think about, and hopefully a new perspective of the world around us. Monarchs are fighting for their exist in an unfair fight, and I want to help make that fight a little more even.
