SUBMISSION: Laid-back by Barbara Conaway

A day at the zoo. Unable to travel to the exotic homelands of beautiful beasts, I cherish the opportunities to visit places like the Wild Animal Park in San Diego. This gorilla seemed to be enjoying the day as he watched me walk by his habitat. The eye contact seemed to be a connection of mutual curiosity. I wondered if he/she wondered about me in the same way as I wondered about him. In any case, I can only speculate. They say that the eyes are a window to the soul. If only humans everywhere could take the time to look into the eyes of other animals that inhabit our planet, maybe endangerment wouldn't be the man-made problem it is today.

My passion for art is in the process. I love to study and experiment with the techniques and tools of oil painting. I love the struggle of getting a realistic expression of my subject out of the abstraction of shapes and colors that bring the painting together visually.
