SUBMISSION: Kona by Richard Crino
Gorilla (squatting position) hand carved from a section of maple log. Eyes are handpainted balance in "Kona" oil stain. Clear matte finish. Approx. 20" tall. Approx.20lbs. "Kona represents the fragile state of our environment in several ways. Gorillas being not far removed from humans genetically, it hits especially close to home when their very existence is threatened. Kona was roughed out with a chainsaw and finished with mallet and gouge. He was made from discarded wood (maple) rejected by a local lumber mill."
