"Combining my mediums of predilection, recycled pool rails and wooden pallets, I created this Orangutan in a typical position as he holds on to a vine. The metaphor in the title is obvious as his habitat shrinks ever. I used a mohagony pallet from indonesia to reinforce the message. My necessity to create is driven by the challenge of the "unique" but also to express myself and seduce. Self taught, I started mocking my environment by carving "trompe l'oeil". These finely detailed creations are so deceptive, they are real until you touch them. I  "knit, melt, bend, stitch" wood, bring it to life by carving critters. I now have evolved into considering interactions of shapes and of various recycled materials. These "up cycled" creations attempt to reverse the logic of things, metal grows and weaves around the wood hence becoming organic when in turn the wood becomes a still actor in the construction. It is important for me that neither of the materials involved take over the other, that has proven to be the most challenging aspect of this venture. When inspired and justified I will incorporate a Trompe l'oeil carving. A humorous touch has never left me and, because of life experiences, I often include a sentimental wish. "
