SUBMISSION: Amur Leopard by Nick Hebert
This amur leopard is a resident at the Lee Richardson Zoo in Garden City, Kansas. I was a bit surprised to see it up since it was rather warm out that day but it was cool to see such a beautiful animal. It is a shame that they are critically endangered. I enjoy using photography as a creative outlet to help balance my math and science side as I complete my engineering degree. As an engineering student, I tend to see the more complicated way things interact with each other so for me, photography is a way to look at these interactions in a more simple and elegant way. As I’ve gotten older, I have started to recognize the importance of being able to view something such as an object, an idea, or social issues from multiple viewpoints so that you reach new levels of understanding. And that is something that I am trying to transfer to my photography as well. Whether it is a book, a field full of chaff, or a decoration, it is rewarding to try to view it from a different angel that would otherwise be overlooked. For me, that is the greatest challenge and subsequently the source of the greatest excitement in photography and I hope to continue looking at the world around me through a multitude of lenses.
