One of 50: Hiding in Sumatra by Jacklyn Gratzfeld. All Rights Reserved. My Goal is to combine Art with the preservation of Nature.   I use pure color and three dimensional form to portray the feeling and beauty of the wild.  I want to give a voice to the part of nature that cannot speak.

We fear what we do not understand.

We understand what we learn to know.

We love what we know and appreciate.

When we are not afraid then we can love.

The Sumatran Tiger is critically endangered.  There are less than 500 in the wild and their numbers are dwindling.  After the Tsunami of 2010 tons of aid money poured in to Sumatra.  In wanting to do good much was destroyed. Part of the aid money was used to build roads thru the rainforests of Sumatra and about 90% of it has been destroyed.  Last year I visited Gunung Leuser National Park.  It is an enchanted place and one of the last places where the Sumatran Tiger exists in the wild.  The palm oil plantations are closing in.  In this pastel one of the last young Sumatran Tigers asks you to save them.
