ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2022 Submission

Art4Apes is thrilled to announce that our first entry in this year’s ENDANGERED Fine Art & Photography Contest is Melati. Photograph by Karin Konoval.

Karin is very well known for her amazing performance as Maurice the Orangutan in Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Karin says, "Melati of Woodland Park Zoo passed away on December 14, 2021, 10 days before her 50th birthday (December 27th). Melati and I were friends from 2012 until her passing. We collaborated on paintings for all the time we knew each other, a conversation in painting, as it were. Through the window. Melati chose all the colors, telling me when to change colors. That's the shortest version of our story and friendship, a larger story that could fill a book. Of the many photographs I have taken of her over the years, this is one of my personal favorites."
