The green sea turtle has been on the endangered list since 1978. Pollution, climate change and habitat loss are contributing factors. Sea turtles ingest toxic ocean plastics, mistaking plastic bags for jellyfish which get caught in their stomachs preventing them from swallowing other food. The toxic plastic decomposition in the turtles body results in trapped gas causing the turtle to float which leads to starvation. Climate change has led to warmer sea temperatures resulting in an increase in severe storms , which destroy nesting beaches. Warm air and sand also affects fewer male hatchings thereby disrupting the reproductive patterns.
