Grooming is important among chimpanzee social groups as it helps to build and strengthen bonds diffuse tense situations and it's important for hygiene. Chimp grooming sessions are often accompanied by noises like raspberries and lip smacking. If a chimp has a new wound no matter how minor it is usually the focus of the grooming. This chimps in this photo are two males who have a close friendship just having a routine afternoon grooming session together.
