SUBMISSION: Not forgotten by Amanda Collins
ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
My piece shows the two far ends of the evolutionary spectrum; a Woolly mammoth and the African elephant. It depicts the mammoth leaning in to lay it's head against the elephant with interlocking trunks, a sign of reassurance amongst the elephants. In my interpretation it is reassurance that this is not the end of a species.
This piece is done in coloredpencil and Pan pastels. Various shades and tones are used to create depth in the fur and wrinkles. The background colors chosen are deliberate; grey for the Woolly mammoth portraying it's time has passed, and a sunrise for the elephant as the promise of another day for the elephant population.
