SUBMISSION: Endangered by Sharon Bastin
ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2019 Submission
The root of my exploration is to preserve the meaningful connections I have made with the natural world. Spending significant time outdoors, both on the water and in the woods, I have seen and experienced beauty and had encounters which I wish to capture in clay. Through these clay sculptures my evolving experience with wildlife and marine animals as well as the commonalities I have found to the human world are shared with the viewer in the subtle details and captured happenings I recreate.
I use porcelain and enable the unexpected coloring of the piece to happen in the environment of the kiln using the firing process, whether wood, soda or raku to add spontaneous coloring reminiscent of the pure and impulsive encounters I am honoring.
