SUBMISSION: Monkey Bones by Deliece Blanchard
ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.
I came to know my place in the world when I was nine. High in a yard tree, draped across two limbs, it dawned on me that I was a natural creature. It is this consciousness I inhabit when I’m painting. At nine, I could conjure up the experience of being a bird - flying, singing, feeling at home in a tree. As an adult, it takes some effort to remember that state. I am a musician, teacher, wife, mother, student - but as an artist, I step back into my true place as a creature of this planet.
