ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.

Michelle is deeply engaged in the natural environment that inspires her practice. She is working towards a minimal impact with her practice through experimentation and a careful consideration of material. The notion of over-extraction and over-consumption of mankind informs her working methodologies. She uses recycled materials and particularly glass which is collected from within the forest and roadsides. The Central Victorian Highlands collection represents a combination of species that is unique to the mountain regions. Many of the plant species are critical to the continued symbiotic health of the forest ecology which in turn is responsible for storing carbon, providing vast amounts of oxygen and filters precious clean water for the city of Melbourne. This part of the Australian bush also houses 38 threatened, endangered and critically endangered species and is under threat from 'Old-Growth' logging practices.
