SUBMISSION: Owl Monkey 1 by Sherif Hakeem
ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.
I am immediately captured to subjects that I can render with the utmost realism by my use of stark contrast between light and dark. I find subjects that convey somber emotion such as abused or homeless animals both domestic and wildlife and human subjects such as the homeless or terminally ill enthralling. I feel like these subjects convey such deep emotion in and of themselves and I use the technique of chiaroscuro to further enhance that emotion. The technique of chiaroscuro to portray such subjects has been used since the Renaissance era and I learned to hone this technique from two of my most influential artists Caravaggio and Masacchio. I use only a white charcoal pencil, 3 soft brushes, a kneaded eraser, and a cotton ball for soft backgrounds. I hope to raise awareness through my "Fine Art For Awareness" campaign to endangered wildlife through fine art and use this platform to reach as many people I can to help those who cannot speak for themselves to do just that.
