SUBMISSION: Milagros II by Carla Golembe
ENDANGERED: Fine Art & Photography Contest 2018 Submission.
Birds, animals and insects are integral to our planet, to life on earth. I am upset and appalled that species are going extinct, that our air, waters and land are being poisoned. Although I could paint the horror I choose to paint the joy that celebrates some of these creatures. I'm drawn to beings that fly because, to me, they're magical. As an artist I evoke rather than describe, so my birds and butterflies are not identifiable species but rather iconic images. "Paradise" is all about the birds, how they fly and perch and interact with one another. It's inspired by the birds at Wakodahatchee Wetlands and around my home. Milagros II celebrates the interaction of humans with other living beings. I chose to include this painting because I fear that humans are also endangered by their disregard for planet earth and all her life forms. The woman in the painting is loving, gentle and at one with the butterflies. This is my hope for the world and humanity.
